This Lemon Cream Pie Protein Shake is my favorite vegan protein shake recipe out there! It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and packed with protein and fiber but tastes like a slice of cream pie!
What to do when your mama comes to visit and brings you a giant bag of the most glorious bright yellow lemons from her boyfriend’s tree? Make all the lemon things, of course!
We’ve already exhausted several options – lemon water every morning, lemonade (duh). Watermelon lemonade (yasss queen).
Even a lemon sorbet sweetened with honey because someone has a wedding dress to slay in (in less than two months), so refined sugar is taking a serious backseat.
But this can prove difficult when you have a serious sweet tooth that refuses to lay off, wedding dress or not.
So things like this healthy, Lemon Cream Pie – flavored Vegan Protein Shake that kind of tricks you into thinking you’re indulging in a decadent dessert- when you’re simply filling up with fiber, protein and a little shot of vitamin C- are a godsend.
Why you will love this Vegan Protein Shake recipe:
- Frozen bananas make for a smooth, creamy consistency without having to add any actual cream.
- Coconut whipped cream, cookie crumbs and some fresh lemon zest add the whole cream pie effect.
- This shake tasted like the most decadent dessert, yet it’s gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan! The perfect healthy alternative to a slice of pie.
Healthy dessert-inspired vegan protein shakes are my fave!
Hey, have you tried my Birthday Cake Protein Shake? Or my Blueberry Crisp Smoothie? They’re amazeballs.
The trick for this Vegan Lemon Cream Pie Protein Shake is in the frozen banana, for a smooth, creamy consistency without any actual cream.
Add coconut whipped cream and cookie crumbs for the “Lemon Cream Pie Effect”!
I also added some coconut whipped cream (because dairy is also playing a minimal role in my diet these days, sigh) and cookie crumbs on top of my vegan protein shake- for giggles.
Is this Lemon Cream Pie extravaganza with all those add-ons still healthy? Not the most, but definitely not the worst either.
The coconut whipped cream and cookies are just an optional touch making this vegan protein shake look pretty as it adds the whole cream pie effect in a seriously delicious way.
However, if you want to keep this vegan protein shake recipe uber-healthy and clean eating-approved, you can always skip it.
Chef’s Tips for making this Lemon Cream Pie Protein Shake:
- Make sure you remove pesticides from your lemons. To do so, fill a large bowl with 4 parts water to 1 part plain white vinegar. Soak the lemons along with other veggies or fruit you’d like to clean in the mixture for 20 minutes. Rinse the fruit or vegetables well with water.
- For full control of all ingredients, I recommend you make your own coconut whipped cream. Use this easy recipe to do so. You can use swerve for a sugar-free version! “Native Forest” is a good brand. It is organic and actually labeled as coconut cream.
- When purchasing your protein powder, take the time to review the ingredients and nutritional profiles of the product and try to stick with organic sources whenever possible. Here’s a great guide that helps you chose your vegan protein powder!
Variations on this Vegan Protein Shake recipe:
- For a vegan mango cream pie protein shake, use frozen mango cubes instead of bananas.
- This easy lemon smoothie recipe also works really well with other citrus fruits like lime, tangerine or grapefruit! Use more vanilla extract instead of lemon extract.
- If you want to keep this protein shake recipe clean eating-approved, leave out the cookie crumbs or use sugar-free whole wheat cookies.
I know I will be drinking these lemon cream pie vegan protein shakes all summer long, but if you make one I want to see, make sure to tag your pic on Instagram with #LePetitEats!

Any possible substitution 4 the bananas? Avocado maybe?
Would love to try this but I’m allergic to bananas and avocado so I avoid mangos as well. What do you think would work instead?
