This Blueberry Crisp Smoothie is basically dessert for breakfast!

Today I am very excited to share another healthy smoothie recipe with you all! If you’ve hung around this blog for at least a little while you might already know how crazy I am about smoothies.

They are my official default quick/healthy/on-the-go breakfast, and they are a TOTAL morning life saver on those crazy days when I would probably otherwise skip breakfast (which I have notoriously been known to do). For shame!

I know. I have a tendency to just wake up and start working, and then I can’t seem to tear myself away until I am literally STARVING and HAVE to stop and eat. Are any of you like that too?

They take about 1 1/2 minutes from start to finish, and in some cases you can even drink them out of the glass they were blended up in, which means minimal dishes!

The trick for me is constantly playing around with new flavor combinations so that I never get bored. Some of my favorite breakfast smooties are my Paradise Protein Smoothie , this Dragonfruit Vanilla Smoothie and my Peanut Butter & Jelly Smoothie Bowl.

But today we are talking Blueberry Crisp Smoothie, and doesn’t it just sound to die for?

Well, it is. It’s like having dessert for breakfast, which is awesome. But the even more awesome thing about this Blueberry Crisp Smoothie is the insane amount of health benefits going on inside!

Why I love adding collagen to my smoothies:

This Blueberry Smoothie recipe features an anti-aging dietary supplement from Vital Proteins that I will probably now be adding to ALL my future morning shakes and smoothies. When they sent me some of their Collagen Peptides to try out in recipes I was amazed to discover all the health (and beauty!) factors that are addressed when you incorporate a collagen supplement into your diet, such as:

    • Youthful skin
    • Healthier hair
    • Stronger nails
    • Strong, healthy bones
    • Joint health
    • Immune health
    • Digestive support
    • Weight maintenance

Without getting too deep into the scientific stuff, collagen is the most abundant protein found in the body. It plays a major role in the musculoskeletal system, as well as our bodies’ mobility and elasticity, so taking a naturally derived collagen peptide supplement is a good idea if you are into taking care of your tendons, joints, cartilage, skin and bones.

Why choose Vital Proteins?

Vital Proteins sources its all-natural collagen peptides from pasture raised, grass fed cows, which I like very much. Some other things I like very much about Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides are that it’s completely flavorless and virtually undetectable in recipes, making it the perfect supplement to add to all kinds of smoothies, soups and so many other things.

And it doesn’t alter the consistency of whatever you add it to- sometimes I’ll just add a scoop or two to a glass of water and it’s like I’m drinking a little beauty/youth elixir!

Toppings for this Blueberry Smoothie:

  • chia seeds or flax Seeds
  • hemp seeds
  • granola ( try my paleo granola)
  • bee pollen
  • edible flowers – you can use edible flowers or non-edible if they are just for decoration
  • fresh fruit
  • nuts or seeds
  • nut butter
  • shredded voconut
  • chocolate shavings

Tips and variations for making this smoothie:

  • Pour the base into popsicle molds for making blueberry collagen popsicles.
  • For some added health benefits use Ceylon cinnamon – a healthier alternative to cassia and a great natural way to reduce blood pressure and daily stress.
  • Creamy cashew milk is low in calories but for an extra rich smoothie, you can also use coconut milk.
  • Blueberries can be replaced with any other frozen berry.
  • The frozen banana adds body to this smoothie and gives it the perfect mouthfeel and thickness, so if you replace it, the texture will change. You could swap it for avocado – it won’t add any sweetness, but will definitely add the thick and creamy texture. Just remember to add more honey.
